Welcome!

Welcome to My Genius Hour Project

Hello, my name is Karina Sequeira and welcome to my Genius Hour Blog! I am a Teacher Candidate, currently in my first year of the Teacher Education Program in the J/I stream at Brock University. At a very young age, teaching has been one of my passions. The experiences that I have encountered throughout my educational journey as a student has strengthened this passion.

Within my undergraduate studies, the courses I have taken in the Concurrent Education Program have furthered my knowledge of subject content and educational theory. As a Teacher Candidate, I am excited to use the theories I have learned within my undergraduate studies and use the resources/strategies that I will learn within the Teacher Education program to develop strategies and teaching styles that will prepare and better me as a teacher within the classroom.

In my first year of Teachers Education, I am currently enrolled in Teaching Digital Learners in the Digital Age, a course designed to help and provide Teacher Candidates with resources that will allow them to enhance their classroom and teaching with the use of technology. Within today's society, technology holds a major role in the lives of many and is often used daily. Therefore, I am intrigued and excited to learn how to incorporate technology into the classroom and how it can be sued within an educational context to further the learning experiences of my students.

The passion map on the left, contains words that describe my passions and things that are important to me.

This image was created with the tool Word Art Creator. This tool is unique as it allows you to insert your own words, shapes, and creative style to design word images. It can be useful within the class setting to introduce vocabulary terms and provide a visual in brainstorming activities.

Personally, I find this tool to be effective for many subject areas to present vocabulary. Moreover, this display is engaging for visual learners and students can participate in their learning by creating their own art.

This is my All About Me Pinterest Page. With the use of Pinterest, I am able to pin and discover posts that are relevant to my passions, hobbies, and many educational resources. Pinterest can also be a resourceful educational tool that teachers can use to share and discover lesson plans, activities, and classroom management strategies.

Below I have embedded the TED Talk: Rita Pearson: Every Kid Needs A Champion, that has resonated with me throughout my undergraduate studies in Concurrent Education as it emphasizes the importance of teachers within the lives of students. Rita Pearson, an educator herself, discusses the importance of encouragement and connection with students and how it can have a positive impact on their learning.

Displaying videos such as the TED Talk below, within the classroom setting can be useful in inspiring students about a certain topic and can also be used for learning and educational purposes. One can use videos relating to particular lessons that can enrich the lesson and connect to the learning styles of students.
